Museums only show part of their collection. The rest lies in the depot, cool, dry and dark. The same goes for tape: how you store it helps decide how well the adhesive holds later.

The three enemies

Heat, moisture and direct sunlight are hard on adhesives. That is why makers of kinesiology tape recommend a cool, dry place away from direct sun and extreme temperatures. One large manufacturer gives 10 to 30 °C in a US medical device database.1

10 to 30 °Ccool, dry, no direct sun. This is how manufacturers recommend storing tape.

What this means day to day

  • Not in the car: in summer it quickly gets much warmer than 30 °C in there.
  • Not on the windowsill: UV light damages adhesives.2
  • Not in a wet sports bag: moisture is the third enemy.
  • In the box: the packaging protects against light and dust.2

The order

If you have several boxes, for example in a practice or a club, use the oldest first. In warehouses this is called “first in, first out”.2 Depending on type and storage, adhesive tapes stay fully usable for about 12 to 36 months.2 Check the information on our packaging.3

Just before applying

Leave the backing on the strip until the last moment. That keeps the adhesive clean. Only take out what you need right away.
